What Have We Learned About Price Stability?

چکیده
This paper summarizes what we have learned about price stability since the C.D. Howe Institute and Bank of Canada conferences of 1996 and 1997.1 The range of issues that a central bank must consider in its evolving approach to price stability, and that these two conferences covered, is broad. It includes setting targets for the behaviour of the price level, developing techniques for forecasting and influencing the price level, reporting and explaining the bank’s actions, and establishing and maintaining credibility.2

Pathophysiology of Ischemia/Reperfusion-induced Myocardial Injury: What We Have Learned From Preconditioning and Postconditioning?
Organ damage after reperfusion of previously viable ischemic tissues is defined as ischemia/reperfusion injury. The pathophysiology of ischemia/reperfusion injury involves cellular effect of ischemia, reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cascade. Protection against ischemia/reperfusion injury may be achieved by preconditioning or postconditioning. In this review, we discuss basic mechan...
متن کاملA Framework for the Pursuit of Price Stability
It is often said that there is a worldwide community of central bankers. I certainly feel that way. Central bankers in all countries share a number of concerns. Perhaps the most important of these is the desire for price stability. While central bankers may differ in the ways they seek to achieve price stability— differences grounded in our respective histories, customs, and institutions—the go...
متن کاملThe Case for Gradualism in Policies to Reduce Inflation
Inflation is usually defined as a sustained rate of increase in a broadly based index of prices. Whatever meaning one gives to the imprecise term sustained, the past fifteen years seem to meet the standard. Both the all—item consumer price index and the implicit GNP deflator have increased in every quarter since late 1965, and neither seems likely to reach a zero rate of change in the near futu...
متن کاملA Conference on Price Stability
The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland has publicly endorsed a legislative resolution that would make zero inflation, or price-level stability, the overriding long-run objective of the Federal Reserve System. Price-level stability means a policy intended to keep the price level reasonably constant over long horizons. That is, although the price level may fluctuate temporarily in response to tran...
متن کاملComment on ‘Monetary Policy Issues in a Low-Inflation Environment’ by José Vinals
Let me begin by stating categorically that, whatever else I may say today, I am for Price Stability. I'm also for Motherhood and apple pie. Of course, what I mean by that is that everyone is for price stability, but they often mean somewhat different things by it. How low an inflation rate should constitute price stability? Is zero the right number? Should we target the general level of prices,...
